Tag Tutorials / Baaaaaad
« on: April 14, 2012, 06:35:52 pm »

I've used PSP9 for this tutorial, however you should be able to create this tag in all versions.
You need to have knowledge of working with layers and masks.

Supplies needed:
A tube of choice.  I've used the art of Cuddy Rigor Mortis, available for purchase at CDO.
Please do not use the same tube without the appropriate license.
Scrap kit of choice.  I'm using Evening Sunset by Sam's Scraps, available for purchase from The PSP Project
Font of choice.  I've used Affalite.
Mask of choice.  I've used Mask 32 by Moonbeams and Spiderwebs
Template by me.  You can download it here

Plugins:
Eye Candy Impact - Gradient Glow (optional)
Lokas Software - 3D Shadow (optional)

1.  Open your template and tube in PSP.

2.  On the template, press Shift-D to duplicate it and close out the original.  Delete the copyright layer.

3.  Image - Canvas Size and increase the canvas to 600 x 500 pixels to give you some playing room.

4.  Highlight the Black Ellipse layer.  Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat.  Copy paper of choice and paste as a new layer.  Selections - Invert and press delete.  Deselect.  Delete the original Black Ellipse layer.

5.  Repeat Step 4 for the Rectangle, Rectangle Frame, Heart, Flower 1, Flower 2 and Flower 3 layers.
Add a drop shadow of choice to some of the layers to make them pop.
I added it to the Glitter layers, the flower layers and Rectangle Frame layer.

6.  Follow the same method to add a paper to the word 'BAAAAAAD'.
I then added the drop shadow to the Glitter BAAAAAAD layer.

7.  Highlight the 'I may be' layer.  To change the colour, I used the Manual Colour Correction.
You can find this under Adjust - Colour Balance - Manual Colour Correction.
Click on the 'Source' box and select the grey colour.
Then click on 'Target' and select a colour from your tube or scrap kit.

8.  Follow Step 7 for the 'but I'm perfectly good at it' layer.
I added a Gradient Glow and drop shadow to both these layers.

9.  Place your tube and move it into position.  I applied Lokas Software - 3D Shadow with the following settings:

10.  Add any elements you like - I simply added a flower.

11.  Paste another paper as a new layer and move it below the Glitter Ellipse layer.

12.  Apply your mask to this layer and merge group.

13.  Add your name, copyright and licence number (if necessary)
And you're done :)

I've used PSP9 for this tutorial, however you should be able to create this tag in all versions.

Supplies needed:
A tube or close up of your choice.  I'm using one by Teri Rosario which is available from CDO
Please do not use the same tube without the appropriate license.
Fonts of choice.  I've used Island of Misfit Toys and Fleur De Leah.

Plugins:
Alien Skin Eye Candy 5:Impact - Gradient Glow (optional)

1.  Open a new transparent image 600 x 250 pixels.  Paste your tube as a new layer.

2.  Duplicate and move your tube as many times as required to cover your canvas.
I also mirrored mine a couple of times.
You should get a result as below:

3.  Merge Visible.  Apply Adjust - Blur - Motion Blur with the following settings:

4.  Apply Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds with the following settings, using a medium colour from your tube:

5.  Effects – Edge Effects – Enhance.

6.  Paste your tube again, and move it into position.  Duplicate.

7.  On the original tube layer, apply Adjust - Blur - Gaussian Blur with a Radius of 15.

8.  Apply Effects - Texture Effects - Texture with the following settings, and a contrasting medium colour from your tube:

I believe the texture I've used is one that comes default with PSP9.
If you don't have it, choose one to your liking.

9.  Duplicate the texture layer.

10.  Add a drop shadow to your tube.

11.  Select your Preset Shapes tool and draw a rectangle above your texture layers, but below your tube.
I used the same colour that I used for my texture.
See my screenshot for placement:

12.  Convert to raster layer and add a drop shadow of 0, 0, 100, 10.  Drop the opacity to 70% (or to your liking)

13.  Crop your canvas to size.  Add a new raster layer above your tube.  Flood fill with a dark colour from your tube.
Selections - Select All.  Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Press delete on your keyboard.  Select None.

14.  Add a phrase of choice to your rectangle layer using the dark colour you just chose.
Change the blend mode of your phrase to Overlay, or one that suits your tag.

15.  Add your name and copyright and license number (if necessary).  I added a Gradient Glow and drop shadow to my name as well
And you’re done :)

I've used PSP9 for this tutorial, however you should be able to create this tag in all versions.
You will need to know how to apply filters and masks.
You can see the forum set result at the bottom of this post.

Supplies needed:
A tube and close up of choice.  I'm using one by Irene Owens which you can purchase from  CDO
Please do not use the same tube without the appropriate license.
Fonts of choice.  I've used Interdimensional (an all-caps font) and Always Black (a script font)
Mask of choice.  I've used WSL_Mask241, which can be downloaded from Wee Scots Lass
My Word art.  You can download it here

Plugins:
Mura’s Meister – Copies
Filter Factory L - Send Me An Angle
Filter Factory B - Seismic Twirl
AAA Frames – Foto Frame
Eye Candy Impact - Gradient Glow (optional)

1.  Open a new transparent image 600 x 600 pixels

2.  Copy and paste your tube as a new layer.

3.  Apply Mura Meister Copies with the following settings:

4.  Adjust – Blur – Gaussian Blur with the following settings:

5.  Effects – Texture Effects – Soft Plastic with the following settings:

6.  Duplicate this layer and Apply Filter Factory L - Send Me An Angle with the following settings:

7.  Apply Filter Factory B - Seismic Twirl with the following settings:

8.  Change the blend mode of this layer to Soft Light, or one that suits your tag.

9.  Let's get what we need for the forum tag.  Create a custom selection with the following settings:

Copy merged and paste as a new layer.

10.  Now, return to your original canvas, and we'll finish the tag.
Crop the canvas to 600 x 600 pixels and Merge Visible.

11.  Apply mask to this layer and Merge Group.

12.  Paste your tube and move it into position.  Add an appropriate drop shadow.

13.  Open the word art.  Make a selection around the quote, and copy it.  Paste onto your tag and colourise to suit.  Add a Gradient Glow and drop shadow as appropriate.

14.  Add your name in your All-Caps font using white - I placed it under my tube, so that it looks as though my tube's sitting on the name.  Add a drop shadow of choice and change the blend mode to Multiply (or one that suits your tag).

15.  I then added the name again using a script font and applied a Gradient Glow and Drop Shadow.

16.  Resize your tag and add your copyright and license number as required.  Save your tag as a jpg or png.

Lets finish our forum tag.

17. Open the canvas we created earlier.  Paste your tube or close up and move it to the left.  Add a drop shadow.

18.  Paste the word art onto your canvas and colourise to suit.  Add a Gradient Glow and drop shadow as appropriate.  Crop your tag to 600 x 250 pixels.

19.  Merge visible and apply AAA Frames - Foto Frame with the following settings:

20.  Add your name using your script font.  Add a Gradient Glow and drop shadow as required.  Add your copyright and license number as required.

And you're done :)

Here's the completed forum tag:

Tag Tutorials / Textured HSB Tag (NO SCRAPS)
« on: April 08, 2012, 04:31:59 pm »

I've used PSP9 for this tutorial, however you should be able to create this tag in all versions.
I am assuming you have some knowledge of how PSP and Animation Shop work, including applying masks.

Supplies needed:
3 tubes or close ups of choice.  I've used three tubes by  Ralph Macrey, available for purchase at
 Artistic Dreams Imaging
Please do not use the same tubes without the appropriate license.
Font of choice.  I've used Ink in the Meat
Mask of choice.  I've used Vix Big Mask 001 by Vix
Texture of choice.  I've used Vix Texture 7 by Vix

Plugins:
Eye Candy 4000 - HSB Noise
Eye Candy Impact - Gradient Glow (optional)

1.  Open a new canvas 600x600 pixels.  Flood fill white.

2.  Paste each of your tubes onto your canvas.  Resize each of them, so the faces are similar in size.
Arrange to your liking.  See my screenshot below:

3.  Hide your white background and merge visible.  Unhide your background.  Colourise
(Adjust - Hue and Saturation - Colourise) your tube layer with the following settings:

4.  Open your texture and paste as a new layer above your tubes.  Change the blend mode to Screen (or one that suits your tubes and texture).

5.  Select your tube layer.  Selections - Select all - Float.  Selections - Select all - Defloat.  Highlight your texture layer.
Selections - Invert.  Press Delete on your key board.  Selections - Select None.

6.  Hide your background layer.  Merge visible.  Unhide your background layer.  Crop your tag to size.

7.  Apply mask of choice to your tube layer.  I set mine to 'Fit to Canvas', but you may need to change this, depending on where your tubes are placed.  Merge group.  You may like to duplicate your masked tube layer, depending on your mask and texture colours - I didn't in my example.

8.  Add your name in font of choice.  I also added a gradient glow and drop shadow.

9.  Add copyright and license number (if necessary).

10.  Duplicate your masked tube layer twice for a total of three layers.  Rename Tube 1, Tube 2 and Tube 3.

11.  On the Tube 1 layer, apply HSB Noise with the following settings:

12.  Apply HSB Noise to the Tube 2 and Tube 3 layers, hitting the random seed button.

13.  Close off the masked tube layers, leaving the Tube 1 layer open.  Copy merged and paste as new animation in Animation Shop.

14.  Close the Tube 1 layer and open the Tube 2 layer.  Copy merged and paste after the first frame.

15.  Close the Tube 2 layer and open the Tube 3 layer.  Copy merged and paste after the second frame.

16.  Select all frames and change the frame properties to 33.

17.  Optimise your animation and save as a gif.
And you're done :)

I've used PSP9 for this tutorial, however you should be able to create this tag in all versions.
I am assuming you have some knowledge of how PSP works, including applying masks.

Supplies needed:
A tube of choice.  I'm using one by Ralph Macrey, which is available from Artistic Dreams Imaging.
Please do not use the same tube without the appropriate license.
Scrap kit of choice.  I'm using Forgotten Melodies by MerePoule.  I downloaded this kit a long time ago, and I have managed to find some of her kits at Le Journal du Scrap, however the links for this kit are no longer valid.  Please use a kit of your choice.
Font of choice.  I've used **** Happens.
Mask of choice.  I've used WeeScotsLass's Mask249

Plugin: Eye Candy Impact - Gradient Glow (optional)

I've written this so you can twist your result to suit your tube and scrapkit choice - Hope you enjoy it.

1.  Open a new image 600x600 pixels.  Flood fill white.

As I have used a full size kit, all elements and papers have been resized down to approximately 20% of their original size.
Please resize your kit elements as required.

2.  Copy and paste frame of choice from your scrapkit.  I've used mp08 from my kit.

3.  Select a paper from your kit - I've used paper16.  Copy it and paste as a new layer.  Move it below your frame.  Apply mask of choice to this layer and merge group.

4.  Copy and paste your tube as a new layer and move it above your frame.
I placed mine, so it appears she's standing on the frame.
Resize as necessary.  I added a gradient glow and a drop shadow.

5.  Paste elements of choice in and around your framed layer.  Add any drop shadows and/or gradient glows you like.
I've used 12, 50, 32, 9 and 13 in my example.

9.  Crop your tag and resize if necessary.

10.  Add your name, using a font of choice.  I also added a gradient glow and dropshadow.

11.  Add the appropriate copyright and license number if necessary.  I've also credited the scrapkit maker.
And you're done :)

I've used PSP9 for this tutorial, however you should be able to create this tag in all versions.

Supplies needed:
2 tubes or a tube and close-up of choice.  I'm using ones by Wassim Jelassi which is available from ADI
Please do not use the same tube without the appropriate license.
Font of choice.  I've used Ephesis.
My gold pattern. Right click and save this to your computer, where you can easily find it.
You may colourise this to suit your tag, if you wish.

Plugins:
Xero - Abstractor
Alien Skin Eye Candy 5:Impact - Gradient Glow (optional)

1.  Open a new transparent image 600 x 250 pixels.  Also open your tube and my gold pattern.

2.  Select two colours from your tube - a dark colour for your background (I've used black) and a medium colour for your foreground.

3.  Set your foreground to a foreground-background gradient with the following settings:

Flood fill your blank canvas with this gradient.

4.  Apply Xero - Abstractor with the following settings:

5.  Effects – Edge Effects – Enhance.

6.  Set your foreground to the gold pattern I've supplied.  Select your pen tool, with the following settings:

I've used the Diamond line style, but you may wish to use a different style for your tag.

Please note:  This step may be slightly different, depending on which version of Paint Shop you use.
Basically, you want a line on a layer of it's own - please create this as appropriate to your version.

Expand your tag window, so you can see the edges of your canvas.  Hold the shift key down, and draw a line across your tag, starting off the left edge of your canvas and extending beyond the right edge of your canvas.
See my screenshot below:

7.  Move your line into the centre of your dark colour and convert to raster once happy with the placement.

8.  Duplicate your line, and go to Effects - Image Effects - Image Offset and apply the following settings:

Your duplicated line should move down into the next dark area of your tag, but you may need to move it slightly, depending on your line settings and placement.

Repeat this step so you get three lines down your tag.

9.  Hide the background layer and merge your three lines together.  Unhide the background.

10.  Paste your tube or close up and move it to the right-hand side of your tag.  Apply a drop shadow of choice.
Go to Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat.  Activate your lines layer and press delete.  Selections - Select None.
Lower the opacity on your tube to suit your tag - I've lowered mine to 50%

11.  Paste your main tube on the left hand side of your tag and apply an appropriate drop shadow.

12.  Add a new raster layer and flood fill using the gold pattern I've supplied.  Selections - Select All.  Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Press delete.  Selections - Select None

13.  Add your name in font of choice.  Add a Gradient Glow using your medium colour and a drop shadow, if required.
Add your copyright and license number (if necessary).
And you’re done :)

I've used PSP9 for this tutorial, however you should be able to create this tag in all versions.
I am assuming you have some knowledge of how PSP and Animation Shop work, including applying masks.

Supplies needed:
2 tubes or images of choice.  I've used the art of Erin Ewer, available for purchase at My Tubed Art
Note regarding URL: As this tutorial was originally written in 2010, my tag has a different URL on it.
Please use the newest URL if using Erin Ewer's art to create this tag.

Please do not use the same tubes without the appropriate license.
Scrap kit of choice.  I'm using Violet Hill by Bel Vidotti
Font of choice.  I've used Inspiration, a pay font
Mask WSL Mask 220 by Chelle
Template #83 by Designs By Ali.  As I can no longer find these templates online, I have attached it to this post

Plugins:
Eye Candy 4000 - HSB Noise

1.  Open your template and tubes in PSP.

2.  On the template, press Shift-D to duplicate it and close out the original.  Delete the copyright layer.

4.  Add a new raster layer below the others and flood fill with white.

3.  Highlight the SHAPE 1 layer.  Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat.  Copy paper of choice and paste as a new layer.  Selections - Invert and press delete.  Deselect.  Add drop shadow of choice (I used 2/2/50/5 then repeated with -2/-2/50/5).  Delete the original SHAPE 1 layer.

4.  You only need to follow this step if you are using tubes, and not images.  Highlight the CENTER FRAMES layer.  Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat.  Copy paper of choice and paste as a new layer.  Also paste your tubes and position as desired.  Selections - Invert and press delete on the paper layer and the tube layers.  Deselect.  Delete the original CENTER FRAMES layer.

5.  Highlight the OUTER FRAMES layer.  Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat.  Copy paper of choice and paste as a new layer.  Also paste your tubes and position as desired.  Selections - Invert and press delete on the paper layer and the tube layers.  Deselect.  Add drop shadow of choice (I used 2/2/50/5) to the frame and tube layers.  Delete the original OUTER FRAMES layer.

6.  I deleted the DOODLES layer and used doodles in the scrap kit I chose.  Up to you if you do the same, or follow the same steps as previously to replace the DOODLES layer.

7.  Paste another paper of choice above the white background layer.  Apply your mask to this new layer.  I duplicated it and mirrored and flipped it, moving the two mask layers slightly apart to cover my background better.  If you do this, make sure you merge the two mask layers together.

8.  Highlight your top layer and add your name.  I also added a gradient glow and drop shadow.  Add any embellishments you like.  Resize your tag as desired.

9.  Add copyright and license number (if necessary).

10.  Duplicate your mask layer twice for a total of three layers.

11.  On the first layer, apply HSB Noise with the following settings:

12.  Apply HSB Noise to the other two mask layers, hitting the random seed button.

13.  Close off the mask layers, leaving the top mask layer open.  Copy merged and paste as new animation in Animation Shop.

14.  Close the top mask layer and open the second mask layer.  Copy merged and paste after the first frame.

15.  Close the second mask layer and open the third mask layer.  Copy merged and paste after the second frame.

16.  Select all frames and change the frame properties to 28.
